The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has, on behalf of Government, embarked on the process of reviewing and updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action (NBSAP) for Uganda that was developed in 2002. Financial support for the activity is from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The NBSAP provides the framework to guide in the planning, identification and prioritization of actions required to achieve the three objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) namely: the conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of the components of biodiversity and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources.

A capacity building workshop was held in June 2012 and the out put was the Road map and a time line for the revision of the NBSAP and the next activity would be the thematic group meeting due to take in December 2012.

The revision and updating f the NBSAP is expected to end by December 2014 with the final product
